• Relevance of the researched issues:

The phenomenon of global value chains is far from new in the global practice and has been the subject of scientific interest since the 1970s It is believed that an efficient global value chain may have a positive impact on businesses and corporate growth. Control over the chain assists global leaders in creating possibilities for local producers to improve their position in it. OECD studies indicate that global value chains generate significant economic benefits for both participating companies and national and regional economies where they are located. Both large lead companies and small firms from developing countries can benefit from them.

• Project goal:

The project goal is to develop and validate an Assessment model for the innovation potential of Global Value Chains on the basis of two pilot case studies involving representatives of the high-tech and low-tech sectors in Bulgaria

That goal will increase the scientific knowledge in the filed in line with the National Strategy for Scientific Research and contribute to the implementation of the Bulgarian strategic framework in the area of smart specialization, economic transformation and production process digitalization.

• Subject of research:

The subject matter of research under this project are global value chains as systems of companies and processes where the different stages of adding value are located across different national and regional economies. They will be examined within the context of the impact of their innovation potential on the regional competitiveness.
