Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dessislava Alexova participated in an Erasmus+ mobility program, which took place from May 19th to 24th, 2024, at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave, in the city of Barcelos, Portugal. The event brought together participants from various universities and organizations from Europe and around the world.

The main goals of the initiative were the interinstitutional exchange of best practices and innovations, as well as an in-depth discussion of European values in a global context.

During the five days of the event, participants had the opportunity to engage in various workshops and presentations focused on university innovations and the exchange of best practices. The presentations, provided by universities from different countries, showcased diverse approaches to education and mobility, with an emphasis on how they can be integrated and adapted within a global context. All presentations were collected and distributed by the organizers, enabling participants to continue the exchange of ideas even after the event concluded.

One of the most engaging activities during the mobility event was the workshop on the topic of “European Values,” where participants not only from the EU but also from Africa, Asia, and South America discussed their perceptions of European values. It was particularly interesting to see how these values are perceived by different cultures and continents, and how the EU is viewed as a whole. Participants assembled puzzles and discussed key themes such as freedom, equality, democracy, and the rule of law, sharing experiences and perspectives.

The event also included a cultural program that offered participants the opportunity to explore the rich cultural heritage of the region. One of the main cultural highlights was a visit to the historic city of Braga, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as a tour of the Ceramics Museum in Barcelos, where participants had the chance to experience local crafts and traditions. The cultural day concluded with a visit to the local market in Barcelos, which provided an interactive glimpse into local traditions and customs, enriching the experience for all participants.

The mobility event in Barcelos successfully achieved its main objectives, providing a platform for the exchange of best practices, in-depth discussions on European values, and a unique cultural experience. It was beneficial, informative, and inclusive, enriching all participants with new ideas and perspectives. Participants will cherish unforgettable memories and contacts that will contribute to the development of future initiatives and partnerships.

The representatives from different continents contributed to a diversity of viewpoints and fresh ideas regarding the global perception of the EU and its role in the world. Among the participating countries were Bulgaria, Portugal, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, as well as countries from Africa, Asia, and South America.
